Thanks to Our Community Volunteers

By Steve Gilbert

I can not think of a better use of this web site than to thank several people for some outstanding, unselfish volunteer work aimed at bettering our community. In the first case, Brian Pavlik spent over 100 hours this summer and fall, working in the wooded area behind the 7600 block of Maritime Lane. This major conservation project was part of his Eagle Scout project and involved his engaging a professional engineer in the planning and designing phase, recruiting a crew (lots of dads and siblings in the chain gang), and obtaining materials. In the end, Brain and his crew did an excellent job of sprucing up the trail area, removing garbage and debris, and stabilizing a streambed.

In the second case, Joseph K. "Kurt" Lauer, the LFCA Liaison to the Scouting program, has donated much more than 100 hours towards community improvement. Brian is only the latest in a long list of potential Eagle Scouts that Kurt has help mentor through a project in our community. Kurt is not one to just help in the planning stages either. When the grunt work starts, Kurt is right there with a pick or shovel. Kurt is always on the look out for good projects, so if you have something in mind, contact one of the LFCA board members so we can pass along you ideas to Kurt.

Again, many thanks to Kurt and Brian for a job well done!
