Dishwasher Recall

By Dave Wilson

General Electric has recently recalled a number of dishwashers, some of which may have been installed in Lake Forest homes. Your builder-installed dishwasher or an early replacement unit may be among those included in the recall.

The dishwashers, manufactured between 1983 and 1989, include models GSK500D, GSD500G, GSD540,HDA467, HDA477 or HDA487. The metal information strip on the inside side panel of the dishwasher shows the model number.

According to GE, the switch that selects "heat drying" or "energy saving" may overheat, melt, and possibly cause a fire. GE is offering a cash rebate to any person who purchases a new GE dishwasher in order to replace one of the defective machines. For more information go to http://geappliances.com/product/recall.
