Lake Forest Homeowners Association Board Meeting
May 11, 2000
Present: Phil Berne, Gene Cole, Beverly Franklin, Steve Gilbert, Harry Hopkins and Ed Palekas
Absent: John Bevis, Jennifer Yurina and Dave Wilson
Meeting was called to order by Steve Gilbert.
Minutes: The February meeting minutes were approved; the March 9 meeting was approved pending the following corrections or additions: change name from Mary Sue Berne to Mary Jo Berne and add amount of $1,420 for common grounds landscaping.
Yard sale: Date was changed to April 29 due to the rain. An ad was put in the paper and the new date was put on the message board. Harry suggested we also put on the web site next time.
Treasurers report: Gene Cole reported that he rolled over $33,809.11 into a 19-month CD with a 6.75% yield at Wachovia Bank.
Dues: Gene also reported that there are still 13 delinquent dues including two still owing for 1998, 1999 and 2000. Will send out additional letters. Dues in the amount of $10,395 was deposited to the bank with $425 not yet deposited. There was a brief discussion on raising dues. According to the bylaws, the board can only raise dues 5% a year.
Homeowner request: Steve received a call from a homeowner on Cervantes Lane requesting the board send a certified letter their renters to move a camper from in front of the house they own. The owners felt the camper was adversely affecting the sale of their home. After discussion, the board felt it was the owner’s responsibility, not the board’s.
Web site: Harry Hopkins commented that we need more support for the web site. There have been no new articles in awhile. Also reminded us that we could add contractors to the web site.
Lorton: Steve attended a meeting with other associations where the Lorton property was discussed. Some of the items coming out of that meeting: 200 acres for homes with 1,500 houses, lease of 100 buildings, DC United interest in building a soccer complex, and proposed museum for the Nike site.
June association meeting: The June meeting is to be held Tuesday, June 27, 7:30 p.m., at the Pohick Regional Library on Sydenstricker. The agenda will include the financial statement, election of three board members whose terms expire (John Bevis, Beverly Franklin and Dave Wilson), dumping in the woods and Lorton land use.
Reminder: Do not dump in the woods. Park facing the right direction on the street or be ticketed.
Meeting adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Beverly Franklin
