Minutes for the Lake Forest Community Association

Board Meeting

September 11, 2003

The Lake Forest Community Association Board of Directors met at Bev’s home at 7:30 p.m. on 11 September 2003.

Bev called the meeting to order at 7:39 p.m.  In attendance were Bev Franklin, Steve Gilbert, Harry Hopkins, Wes Cox, Dave Wilson, and Evelyn Hempstead.  Jim Evans made it to the meeting at 8:15 p.m. and Tom Quigley was unable to attend.

The minutes of the August 13, 2003 meeting were approved with minor corrections to Evelyn’s and Harry’s names.

Dave had questions on a Fall Yard Sale and Community Day.  No discussion or decision was reached on the Yard Sale.  Dave mentioned a potential problem arising with a resident who seems to be a persistent “inconsiderate” neighbor.  Actions were contemplated, but the Board decided to take none at this time.

Evelyn reported that she and Tom have been working steadily on the entrances.  She would like to see about setting up a Community Volunteer Sign Up sheet at the Community Day for people who might be interested in helping out on small landscaping projects.  Evelyn will be getting estimates for (1) a stone wall at the Cervantes Lane entrance and (2) polyurethane recoating of the wood and repointing of the bricks on the entrance signs.

Wes presented the Treasurer’s Report and noted that only 2 households remain delinquent for 2003 and 2002 is now complete.  He would like a detailed discussion for establishing a new late payment fee structure at the October meeting.

The community website has been updated and enhanced with better local links, according to Harry.  Bev mentioned she received e-mail from someone in Alabama with questions on Milky Spore.

Steve reported that curb painting has begun.  We were able to find someone interested in establishing themselves as an “address painter for communities” and they gave us a price of $5.50 per house.  Numbering should be complete by the 15th.

Community Day is on track for October 5th with the approval by Fairfax County Police and VDOT to close the 7600 block of Maritime Lane from 1:00-5:00 p.m.  The festivities will take place from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Harry will send out post cards as a reminder, and Jim will send out an email to the Community bang list later in September.  We are estimating 100 people.

The meeting adjourned at 8:19 p.m.
